I agree new Helloween is fucking WEAK. No highlights whatsoever; the whole album is fillers and forgettable numbers. Even the two tracks Styg mentioned I would
just consider "good songs," definitely not highlights. Helloween is a lot like Maiden to me, that even on their worst albums they have at least one
song I love, and they NEVER fuck up the epic. Well, not this time.
What has happened to all of my favorite bands?

I haven't heard any of this stuff, except for Tarja. I'm looking forward to Brainstorm & Benedictum the most. I hope they wont disappoint...

Royal Hunt is good EH? That's nice to hear; I just keep hoping for something more like The Mission but Paper Blood was pretty good too, so let's see...

I've actually heard most of this stuff. Saint Deamon was a big surprise for me - I had no idea who they were but the album rocked hard!
Black Tide are supposedly a hyped band but, with me living in Europe, I can't say I've heard much about them. They're very good, although the singer's voice will probably change a lot since they were so young when they made their debut album. Still a good band... one to watch out for. Pharaoh kind of disappointed me. Perhaps it's not that bad but it's nowhere near as immediate as The Longest Night. Maybe it will grow on me. And finally... Testament. In all honesty, I think this is good stuff. Musically it's not their strongest, but at least Chuck is singing again and not growling like on Demonic or The Gathering. There seems to be more clean vocals here and I'm pretty damn happy about that. Low is probably my favorite album by them anyway so I'm not exactly heartbroken that this isn't The Gathering - Part 2. The Gathering was seriously overrated... |

evermoving wrote: Sounds like we're pretty much in agreement. I'd agree Testament wasn't at their musical best but Chuck was near his and the Pharaoh did
disappoint. Also, agree with you on the strength of both Black Tide & Saint Deamon's debuts obviously. And yeah you're right about Black Tide...
it's kinda funny to think puberty could reek havoc on their vocal sound |

StygianSteel wrote: It actually concerns me quite a bit since the vocals can really make or break a band for me. I just hope he won't sound too bad on their next album
cause they're a promising young band. It's always nice to see kids doing something other than mallcore.

I think I pretty much agree. The new Grand Magus seems sort of iffy, not really up to par with Wolf's Return. However, I'd probably give Revolution
Renaissance a higher rating since it's got Kiske on it. As far as the Stratovarius demo goes... I did manage to find it the other day but I still
haven't listened to it all the way through so I can't really say which one would I prefer. I'll just say that the sound quality is pretty good for
a demo...
